Introduction

Slay is a notable project in my portfolio, originating as a university assignment focused on e-commerce website development. Inspired by the prevalent shopping habits in Brunei, where residents often bought clothing from overseas retailers, Slay aimed to provide Bruneian customers with a more convenient and accessible shopping experience for their favourite brands. Though not deployed into production due to the substantial scale and associated costs of launching a full-fledged e-commerce business, the project achieved several significant milestones.

Challenges

The challenge was to address the inconveniences faced by Bruneian shoppers when purchasing fashion items from international retailers. These inconveniences included international shipping fees, extended shipping times, and local import taxes. The aim was to create a platform that would provide a local alternative with a diverse product range while ensuring a seamless user experience.

Process

Our approach to developing Slay was guided by user-centric principles and iterative design, with a strong emphasis on testing and feedback:

  1. User Research: We conducted comprehensive surveys and research to gain insights into our target audience's fashion preferences and shopping habits, which formed the foundation for our project.
  2. Design Iteration: Our team created wireframes and prototypes based on the insights from user research. We continuously refined these designs based on user feedback to improve the overall user experience.
  3. User Testing: The app underwent rigorous testing with real users, and their feedback was instrumental in enhancing usability and design.
